As a stand-alone city with more than 17,000 residents, Warrensburg combines a low cost-of-living, small-town lifestyle with close accessibility to Kansas Cityís culture and entertainment and the Ozark Mountainís outdoor recreation. Warrensburg has a strong, diverse economy including the University of Central Missouri with 11,000 students, several manufacturing companies and the nearby Whiteman Air Force Base with 7,500 employees.
The City of Warrensburg operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of 5 members elected at-large to 3-year overlapping terms with one of the Council Members selected by the Council to serve as Mayor.
The Public Works Department is responsible for developing and implementing the Cityís $52.4 million, 5-year CIP and for streets, sewer and cemetery operations. The Department has 31 FTEís and a $4.3 million operating budget. The Public Works Director who is retiring after 21 years in the position reports to the City Manager.
The minimum job requirements are an equivalent combination of 10 years of increasingly responsible related experience and a Bachelorís degree preferably in civil engineering, construction management or construction engineering.
