Job Description:

The City of Kettering is a progressive, innovative city with a population of 57,862 that is known for its outstanding amenities. Kettering is located on 18.7 square miles south of Dayton, Ohio.

The city offers a desirable blend of residential areas within easy access to quality commercial businesses, excellent educational institutions at all levels, medical facilities, an international airport, and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Residents enjoy world-class performers at the city-owned Fraze Pavilion each summer, along with 21 parks and countless community-engaging events throughout the year. The City of Kettering operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Seven City Council representatives are elected to staggered four-year terms on a non-partisan basis, one from each of four districts, two at-large and the Mayor who serves at-large. City Council members are limited to two consecutive terms. The Mayor serves as the presiding officer of City Council and votes as a member of City Council. The Mayor and Council work together to determine quality public policy. The Mayor and Council are committed to their policy-making responsibilities while supporting the traditional City Manager role under the Council/Manager Plan.

The City Manager is appointed by and serves at the will of the City Council. The City Manager will manage a $102 million budget. The City Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of City Council policies and serves as the chief administrative and executive officer of the City. The City Manager coordinates the official business of the City Council, provides leadership and direction to the entire organization, responds to requests for information and assistance, and serves as a liaison between what is regarded as a great City staff and the City Council.

The position requires graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and a combination of education and experience equivalent to attainment of a MPA or MBA and at least 7 years of increasingly responsible local government management experience gained in a community or other public agency with similar complexity to Kettering.

The starting compensation for the position is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Residency within the City is preferred. The City is offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package. Relocation assistance is available.
