Organization: Storm Lake, Iowa Salary: Competitive compensation package Close Date: Open until filled Job Description: Storm Lake, a northwest Iowa city of approximately 12,000 residents, has a strong, diversified economy that includes tourism, two colleges, a regional retail center and agricultural processing. Storm Lake is one of the most ethnically diverse rural communities in the country with Hispanics, Asians, Africans, and African-Americans making up nearly 50 percent of the population. The City of Storm Lake operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of 5 members elected at-large to 4-year overlapping terms. The Mayor is also elected to a 4-year term and presides over Council meetings but does not vote. The City is a full-service organization including a resort hotel, lake dredging operation, and general aviation airport. The City has an annual operating budget of $22.1 million, a five-year Capital Improvement Program of $19.9 million, and 73.4 FTE’s. The next City Manager must be a proactive, entrepreneurial, and collaborative leader who will facilitate the continued growth of the community including furthering the community’s vision of becoming a major Midwest tourism destination. The minimum job requirements are a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business management or a closely related field and 5 years of local government management experience.
