Job Description:

The City of Branson, with a growing resident population of 7,500 and more than 7.8 million annual visitors, is located in southwest Missouri in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains and surrounded by three prize winning fishing lakes. Branson, which covers 20.8 square miles, is one of the nation’s top tourist destinations. It also serves a two-county region as the business hub for more than 70,000 year-round residents. The City is the focus of international attention as both a major development area and an entertainment and tourism Mecca. In fact, Branson is home to 49 music theaters with a total of 56,811 seats as well as 18,808 hotel rooms and 38,813 restaurant seats. Branson continues to grow and develop as a modern community while retaining its historical heritage, enhancing its friendly family-oriented personality and preserving its natural resources. In 2006, the value of the City’s new building permits was $268.7 million. In 2007, the City completed Branson Landing, a $420 million, mixed-use development containing a convention center, hotels, retail, restaurants and residential.

Branson is a full-service municipality which, to serve its large tourism base, functions like a city of 60,000 to 70,000. The City’s FY 2008 total budget is $58,000,000 with a General Fund of $19,959,017. There are 395 municipal employees. Branson utilizes a council/administrator form of government. The governing body is comprised of six aldermen and a mayor. The Board appoints a City Administrator who, in turn, appoints department heads including the Economic Development Director. The Economic Development Director performs professional and administrative work managing and directing all activities involving economic development including representing the City to new and expanding businesses, marketing Branson for economic development, assisting existing industries to prosper and expand, grantsmanship, conducting a variety of economic feasibility studies, coordinating incentive programs and hiring, supervising and evaluating assigned employees. Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the City Administrator including serving as acting City Administrator.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Marketing or closely related field (advanced degree is preferred) combined with five years of senior level economic development experience, preferably gained in a municipal government. An equivalent of education and experience may be considered. Certified Economic Development (CED) or Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) strongly preferred. The selected candidate will have knowledge of workforce housing development, workforce training and development, and nurturing and supporting entrepreneurial development. Must strive to expand the City’s economic diversity by attracting more “green” type (possibly knowledge based) businesses while supporting its critical tourism industry.
