City Manager

Organization: City of Dunwoody, Georgia
Salary: Open DOQ
Close Date: Open until filled

Job Description:

On July 15, 2008, the City of Dunwoody became Georgia’s newest city, and is scheduled to begin operations December 1, 2008. Dunwoody is an ideal community for families and individuals of all ages, and is located 18 miles north of downtown Atlanta; 28 miles from the worlds busiest airport and about an hour from the Georgia Mountains.

Dunwoody has a population of 40,000 and serves as a primary destination of metro Atlanta workers with a daytime service population of close to 150,000. The city is 12.1 square miles and is fully built out. 40% of the City’s property tax revenues come from non-homestead sources due to the considerable size of the commercial district.

The city has a Council-Manager form of government with a Mayor and six Council Members serving staggered four-year terms with three seats by district and 3 seats elected at large. The election process for the new Mayor and Council members is underway. With City Council confirmation, the Mayor will appoint the City Manager who will be responsible for overseeing an efficient and effective operation of a full service city offering services that include police, roads and drainage, parks and recreation, code enforcement, zoning and land use, municipal court and permits. It is expected that the first year’s annual budget will be approximately $18.5M. Initially, many services will be performed by outside contractors.

Dunwoody leaders are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable manager who is creative, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, progressive and proactive. The individual will be receptive to new ideas, very customer service oriented, outgoing and friendly. A master’s degree is preferred, with a minimum of ten years related experience and at least five years experience in a responsible city management position

Salary will be based on experience with a competitive benefits package.
