Close Date: Open Until Filled Job Description: CITY OF INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI (Population: 115,000) PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR The historic City of Independence is a national All-America City with a growing population of more than 115,000. The City is seeking an energetic and experienced public works executive to lead its highly respected Public Works Department (Department). The Director is responsible to the Deputy City Manager for the strategic planning and progressive management of the City’s full service public works program which includes the administration of a $101 million voter approved sales tax supported multi-year capital program. The Department has 93 full-time and numerous part-time and seasonal employees and functions on an operating budget of over $9 million. It operates from several facilities and is divided into the following units: Administration, Administrative Support, Engineering, Property Management, Fleet Maintenance and Street Maintenance. Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Civil Engineering, Public Administration or closely related field combined with at least six years of progressively responsible public works experience including a substantial amount at the supervisory and management level. Excellent writing, verbal, human relations, leadership and management skills are required. The salary range is $76,524 to $125,596 plus excellent benefits. The beginning salary is negotiable DOQ.
