Job Description:

The City of Corinth is strategically located along the IH-35E corridor between Denton and Dallas. Corinth truly provides a Gateway to Success. It offers many advantages for business development as well as a high quality of life for residents. The City covers eight square miles. Corinth represents a desirable blend of pleasant residential areas within easy access of quality commercial businesses and light industry, excellent educational institutions and medical facilities, airports, major professional sports events, shopping centers, and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Driving time to D/FW International Airport is approximately 20 minutes.

Approximately 1,050 acres within Corinth is vacant, undeveloped or underdeveloped land. This land has the potential to be developed to its highest and best use with increased connectivity, open space, land use and diversity. Approximately 400 acres of this land are located along Interstate 35E and 2181 Farm-to-Market road.

The Corinth Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) works to attract new and expanding businesses to the City of Corinth. The CEDC is supported by economic development sales taxes. The CEDC assists with infrastructure development, job creation, and fast-track services to new and expanding businesses. Under provisions of Texas law, communities may vote to approve a one-half cent sales tax on retail sales to fund economic development. Corinth voters thereby established the CEDC, a type B economic development corporation, for the purpose of attracting new business and to support community development projects. The CEDC Board of Directors is an independent board of the City of Corinth composed of seven members who are appointed by the Corinth City Council and serve 2-year terms.

Under the policy direction of the CEDC Board and general supervision from the City Manager, the Economic Development Director is responsible for marketing the City of Corinth to attract new businesses, create primary jobs and to retain and encourage expansion of existing businesses.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, economics, marketing or related field from an accredited college or university combined with at least five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in economic development and related activities; or any combination of education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Must have verifiable successful experience in attracting businesses, developing and implementing business retention/expansion, negotiating and closing deals and working with elected and appointed officials. It is crucial that he or she is an assertive leader whose skills include the ability to earn respect and trust from divergent constituents and the skill to lead them to a consensus on sensitive issues. Must be an articulate self-starter and have excellent communication skills.

The current annual salary range for this position is $82,118.40 to $114,961.60. Starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Corinth offers a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a matching ratio of two to one at retirement, and a deferred compensation 457 plan which the City matches 10% of contributions to a 401(a) qualified plan. There is no state income tax and no Social Security participation (except Medicare). Benefits are excellent and highly competitive.
