Oak Park is a thriving, transit-rich community of about 52,000 located immediately west of Chicago on a major interstate/expressway only 20 minutes from the downtown “Loop” and “Magnificent Mile.” Oak Park is a first-ring suburb that has two light-rail lines and one heavy-rail line to Chicago. The Village offers miles of tree-lined streets, a growing bikeway system and a thriving business community clustered into twelve business areas. This historic community provides a distinctive urban/suburban lifestyle that is a mix of architecturally significant homes and buildings, very high quality municipal services, expansive parks managed by an independent board, two excellent school districts, and a well-educated and very involved citizenry that expects to be heard and

The Oak Park Economic Development Corporation (OPEDC) is a not-for-profit Illinois corporation that is tax exempt pursuant to Section 501 (c) (4) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Mission of Oak Park Economic Development Corporation is to be the primary catalyst for economic growth in the Village of Oak Park. Economic growth increases the assessed value of commercial property, adds to the tax base and thereby enhances the quality of life of the Village. The Primary Objectives of OPEDC are to increase the assessed value of commercial property in Oak Park; to provide increased tax revenue to Village government and to the schools, library, parks and township; grow retail sales tax revenues and to increase employment in the Village.

OPEDC has a budget of $532,750 which includes funding for four employees.

The Development Director is a new position which will report to the Executive Director and be responsible for building relationships within the development community which result in projects that will increase the vitality of Oak Park. Specific responsibilities include identifying sites suitable for small or large development activity; identifying developers and users whose skills or preferences fit an identified need in the Village; soliciting, refining and negotiating preliminary development proposals; performing entitlement and financial feasibility studies; building and maintaining a personal networking directory of property owners, developers, and major tenants; and coordinating the efforts of the developers with the property owners, Village officials, lenders and builders.

Requirements include strong sales skills, a thorough understanding of the development process and a working knowledge of development finance. Prefer non-for-profit or private sector experience in economic development, brokerage and/or banking.
