Johnson County Government in Olathe, Kansas is seeking applicants for County Auditor. Johnson County, with an operating budget of $837.4 million, an Aaa/AAA bond rating and 3,878.01 FTEs, is one of the nation’s premier counties, providing comprehensive services to its citizens in its role as a leading organization in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The County Auditor serves as the Principal Officer of the Audit Services Division, reporting directly to the Board of County Commissioners. The County Auditor is a key participant in divisional and organizational strategic planning and provides internal guidance to departments/agencies of the County concerning auditing issues. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, oversight, and conduct of various complex internal audits of County programs. The County Auditor provides objective evaluation of the achievement of departmental goals and identifies opportunities for enhanced fiscal integrity and the safeguarding of County assets through formal reports to the Board of County Commissioners, Elected Officials, Executive Directors, and Department Directors. This position directs and supervises the County’s five-member audit services team in support of service area goals, objectives, budgeting, and capital improvement projects that support the County’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The ideal candidate will exhibit outstanding leadership, communication, and business skills, and will possess a demonstrated working knowledge of accounting methods, techniques, principles, and standards as well as audit-related federal, state, and local organizational laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. A professional designation, including but not limited to Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant, or a similar, equivalent certification is required.
