Job Description:

Metra is the second largest commuter rail agency in the United States, serving a population base of almost 8 million people within a 3,700 square mile, six county region. In total, Metra operates over the most complex railroad terminal in North America.

Metra is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors comprised of representatives of the six county area. The Directors are appointed by the chief elected officials of the six-counties, the suburban Cook County Commissioners, and the Mayor of Chicago. Metra receives 55 percent of its operating funding from fares. The remainder is from state subsidies and a small regional transportation sales tax. Capital funding comes from the federal government and periodic state bond programs. Metra has approximately 2700 employees and there are 1000 employees operating under the PSA carriers. Metra functions with a FY-2013 budget of about $1 billion.
