Job Description:

Come join Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) a regional, non-profit, public corporation that supplies wholesale drinking water to and treats the sewage for Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County. The Authority has five water treatment plants, four reservoirs and three wastewater treatment plants along with a hydro power generating facility. There are approximately 95 full time equivalent employees and they are seeking a Director of Operations committed to collaboration, innovation and customer service!
Nestled at the foothills of Blue Ridge Mountain lies Charlottesville and Albemarle County which is a highly attractive and desirable place to live and work. The current population of Charlottesville and Albemarle County is approximately 145,000iwith a 10% projected increase by 2020.
This area enjoys a strong economy, excellent schools and other services, gracious living and convenient location to Washington, DC (110 miles) and Richmond, VA (70 miles). The proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean (200 miles) allows for a mild climate with four distinct seasons.
RWSA is governed by a seven-member Boards of Directors which appoints an Executive Director to manage the agency. The Director of Operations reports directly to the Executive Director and provides leadership and strategic direction to all operating department managers to ensure Rivanna operations consistently meet all quality standards, financial goals, all safety and environmental goals and legal requirements and achieve customer service goals of the Authority's two wholesale customers. Operating departments include water, wastewater, engineering, maintenance, and laboratory. The Director of Operations is a member of RWSA’s top management core team.

Requirements include graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a degree in civil, environmental or sanitary engineering or a related field and/or a degree in business or public administration, with a minimum of ten years of experience of a progressively responsibility in the operation of a water and wastewater utility, including considerable experience in supervising technical and operating staff. An advanced degree in business administration, public administration or engineering would be an asset. Although not required, it is preferred that the individual be a Virginia registered professional engineer or a Virginia licensed certified water/wastewater operator or be capable of becoming so licensed or certified within twelve months. The individual must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license or be capable of obtaining one within 30 days.
