Job Description:

Longmont, located in Boulder County at an elevation of 4,979 feet, covers 27 square miles and has more than 300 days of sunshine and a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains. Longmont also is home to several high-tech companies and vibrant restaurant and art scenes. It is conveniently located 35 miles from Denver, 16 miles from Boulder, and 30 miles from scenic Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park. Money Magazine has named Longmont one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in the United States twice within the last five years.

Longmont is a full-service-plus city with an electric utility, Museum & Cultural Center, Senior Center, Youth Center, Art in Public Places program, and extensive business assistance services in addition to traditional city services. The City has the lowest electric rates in Colorado and also low water, sewer, and solid waste rates compared to other Colorado communities. Longmont has an operating budget of $218 million, a 5-year CIP budget of $133 million, and 828.25 FTEs. Longmont’s City Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the City Council, which consists of a directly elected Mayor who serves a two-year term and six Council members who are elected by wards to four-year overlapping terms. The City has a tradition of long-tenured city managers. Its current City Manager is retiring with approximately 19 years in the job.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or equivalent; Master’s degree in same strongly preferred; and at least five years of local government management experience preferably as a Deputy City Manager or City Manager in a medium to large full-service municipal government or comparable organization. Management level experience in both public and private sectors is desired. Equivalent education and experience may be substituted. Must have proven strong administrative leadership, open and positive communication, team management, financial and budget management, economic development success, and labor relations experience. Must be committed to and enjoy being part of and working with an engaged community. Highly competitive starting salary and excellent benefits negotiable depending upon qualifications and experience.
