Close Date: 1/31/2011 Job Description: Located in Central Florida, Seminole County encompasses 344 square miles and is situated between Orlando and Daytona Beach. The County enjoys a beautiful urban setting with a year-round average temperature of 72 degrees. MONEY magazine designated Seminole County schools as “one of the top 100 districts in the nation offering high quality education in a moderately priced community.” Seminole County is “Florida’s Natural Choice” to live, work, and play. Seminole County has a home rule charter with a strong Commission/Manager form of government. The County Manager reports to a 5-member Board of County Commissioners (BCC). BCC members are elected at large but reside in districts. They serve four-year staggered terms. The Chairperson is elected by the BCC. The County Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the BCC. He or she has management responsibility for the functions of Community Information, Business Process Management, Community Services, Central Services, Growth Management, Public Works, Environmental Services, Leisure Services and Public Safety. The 2009/10 Countywide budget is $885.4M of which $265.4M comprises the General Fund. In spite of a significant recessionary economic impact, through prudent long-term fiscal policy direction and management Seminole County has maintained strong fiscal reserves and, in fact, recently increased its bond rating. The County has about 1,325 employees. Only Fire employees are unionized. The successful candidate should be a self-starter who is committed to sustaining the County’s excellent financial condition; will have a master’s degree or commensurate experience in business, public administration or a related field; and will have five years of experience as the manager or assistant in a similarly-sized operation.
